Network First-Gen: Graduate Recognition Ceremony
Thursday, May 13
2:00 p.m.
Congratulations, future 蝌蚪直播 graduate!
The Provost鈥檚 Office for Inclusive Excellence is hosting the Network First-Gen virtual Graduate Recognition Ceremony on May 13th @ 2 p.m.
FirstVU and Network First-Gen realize that holding the identity of a first-generation student is complex. First-generation students are academically skilled and contribute greatly to the campus community. Part of the struggle for first-generation scholars is the lack of taught and shared critical cultural capital that is necessary to navigate the 鈥渉idden curriculum鈥 of universities and colleges successfully which can impact first-generation students adversely.聽 If you are a graduate or undergraduate student who identifies with one or more of the criteria listed below, then you classify as a First-Generation College Student and we cordially invite you to participate in the Inaugural Network First-Gen Graduates鈥 Recognition Ceremony.
First-Generation students are students whose in-home parent(s) or guardian(s) did not graduate from a 4-year U.S. university; this can manifest as:
- An individual both of whose parents did not complete a baccalaureate degree; or
- In the case of any individual who regularly resided with and received support from only one parent, an individual whose only such parent did not complete a baccalaureate degree.
- Students whose in-home parent(s) or guardian(s) have a high school education or less.
- Students whose in-home parent(s) or guardian(s) only attended a 2-year higher education institution whether in the US or abroad.
If you would like to be a part of this virtual celebration, you are required to RSVP. Please do so by end of day May 3rd, 2021. To RSVP, please register .
