CLIMBING & CAMPING @ Jackson Falls, IL

Join the VU Outdoor Rec. Program as we head to the mid-west climbing location of Jackson Falls, IL. 聽 聽 This trip will offer participants the opportunity to test their climbing skills on bullet hard sand stone cliffs. 聽 We will depart Friday night to camp out and spend the duration of our Saturday climbing. 聽 Jackson Falls offers a plethora of climbing styles to push your prowess and abilities. 聽 Price includes all technical climbing gear, instruction, group camping gear, transportation and food while on site. 聽 聽Climbing shoe rental is $5.50 extra. ***Note: Participants should be able to comfortably climb 5.8*** Estimated trip duration: 5 pm Fri. -聙聯 11 pm Sat.

CANOEING @ Piney River, TN
Cost: 聽 聽$34 // Sign-up by: Mon. Mar. 31// Pre-Trip Meeting: 聽 Wed, 聽Apr 2 at 5 pm
The Piney River is only a little over an hour away, west of Nashville. 聽 We will paddle a scenic 6.6 mile section of this Class I river. 聽 Highlights include rock walls and spectacular bluffs. 聽 聽 This is a great trip for beginner paddlers. 聽 聽 Estimated trip duration: 聽 8 am -聙聯 6 pm.

HORSEBACK RIDING @ JuRo Ranch, Mt. Juliet, TN
Cost: 聽 $52 // Sign-up by: Mon. Mar. 31// Pre-Trip Meeting: 聽 Tue, 聽Apr 1 @ 5 pm
Located less than an hour away, the JuRo Stables will provide us with a 1.5-hour horseback ride. 聽 We will ride on wooded trails, across creeks, and possibly to Percy Priest Lake. Check out their horses at 聽. 聽 After the ride, we will have a picnic lunch at a nearby park before returning to VU. 聽 The tip for the guides is included in the trip fee. 聽 Estimated trip duration: 聽 9 am -聙聯 2 pm.

LAKE CLEAN-UP via CANOEING @ 聽Cordell Hull Lake, TN
Cost: 聽FREE! // Sign-up by: 聽 聽Fri, Apr 4 // Pre-Trip Meeting: 聽 Tue, 聽Apr 8 @ 5 pm
At points during our hike along the north side of the lake we have noticed trash washed up on the former shorelines from the summer before. 聽 By canoeing around the lake, we can stop and pick up trash, using the canoes to do the hauling. 聽 This is a nice area worthy of our time. 聽 Beginners are welcome. 聽 All paddling equipment is provided. Estimated trip duration: 聽 8 am -聙聯 6 pm.

HIKING @ Short Springs State Natural Area, TN

Short Springs is a small 420-acre State Natural Area that includes rich woods, forest ravines, low cascades, springs, and big, beautiful waterfalls. 聽 We will hike the 4.2 mile moderately difficult trail and hang out at the waterfalls. 聽 If time allows, we will hike the 2.6 mile trail at the nearby Old Stone Fort State Park. 聽Estimated trip duration: 聽 8 am -聙聯 6 pm.

Wall climbers, it-聙聶s time to try the -聙聹real thing-聙聺! 聽 Kings Bluff is a great location for you to experience the fundamentals of rock climbing with our knowledgeable staff. 聽Some climbing experience is preferred, so take some time to try out the wall first! 聽 聽Shoe rental = $5.50 extra. 聽 Estimated trip duration: 聽 9 聽am -聙聯 聽5 pm.

KAYAK TOURING @ Center Hill Lake, TN

Kayak touring is a fun, relaxing way to explore a lake. 聽 We will spend part of the day paddling around on scenic Center Hill Lake in middle Tennessee. 聽 Highlights will include wooded shorelines and checking out a cove or two. 聽 Beginners are welcome. 聽 All paddling equipment is provided. 聽 Estimated trip duration: 聽 8 am -聙聯 5 pm.

To sign up for a trip, come to the Outdoor Recreation Center (ORC), located on 2600 Children’s Way, kind of behind the Student 聽Rec.
